Nami Island is probably at the top of your list of places to visit in Korea, and I definitely understand why. Who can resist the picture-perfect views that the island can offer? No wonder why Nami Island is always included in the top 10 tourist attractions in Korea. But before we explore Nami Island, we should know first some information related to it, like, How to go to Nami Island from Seoul, How long the travel time and How much will it cost. We understand that researching about these pieces of information need time, That is why we created a detailed travel guide to aid for your Nami Island Trip 😀

First, let us have a small test that will definitely show our age HAHA! Do you know “Winter Sonata”? NO….hmmmm are you sure?…….really?…. WHY? HAHA..For the benefit of those who don’t know, Winter Sonata is a hit K-Drama series around 2001 which was filmed in Nami Island. This K-Drama series boost the popularity of Nami Island not only in Korea but globally. In Fact, based on the Nami Island record, 1,300,000 foreign visitors from different countries came to the island in 2016 alone.

Before Nami Island became internationally popular due to K-Drama/Series, it was known first as the final resting place of a great general named, General Nami. He is a General way back Joseon Dynasty that leads a number of victories against rebels during that era. And if your thinking that the island was named after him, your guess is right.

How to go to Nami Island

Fun Fact!  When going to Nami Island, you will see an Immigration sign.  The reason behind this sign is that in 2006 Nami Island declared its independence from South Korea and renamed itself as The Naminara Republic. So make sure to bring your passport with you when you visit the island…….JOKE!!! Even though the island declared independence, it is still part of South Korea. So keep your passport, relax and enjoy the scenery.

By Train:

It is a 2 hrs travel from Myeongdong Station to Gapyeong Station.

  • Myeongdong to Dongdaemun History Culture Park
  • Dongdaemun History Culture Park to Gunja
  • Gunja to Sangbong
  • Sangbong to Gapyeong

From Gapyeong Station, you have an option to take a cab or a Bus going to ferry Warf.

Gapyeong Bus

  • For 6,000 KRW you can have an unlimited ride on the Gapyeong Bus.
  • Bus Route – Gapyeong Station – Jaraseon Island- Gapyeong Railbike – Nami Island (warf) – Interactive art museum – Petite France – Cheongpyeong Bus station a- Cheongpyeong station- Garden of Morning Calm
  • Make sure to know the bus schedule. The bus has an interval, from 30 – 45 mins. if you miss one, it could ruin your Itinerary

It is the easiest and most convenient way.
